Moving all of your items is difficult.

You look around your place and suddenly have a different attitude about a lot of your possessions.

That couch, the end table, your bookshelf all seem like more of a hassle than an essential piece of your home.

If you don’t want to keep some of your old furniture, what do you do with it?

There are really two options: sell it or donate it.

The first thing you need to do is decide the actual worth of the item.  If you were going into a furniture store, how much would you pay for that item?

If you wouldn’t buy it, then donate it to Goodwill or Salvation Army.

If you would pay a decent amount of money for it, then by all means, sell it!

There are many places where you can sell your items.  Craigslist and eBay are some great online options.  With Craigslist, you do need to take safety precautions.  Make sure that you lock up your items and have someone go with you to deliver it.

eBay is a great option but you have to be willing to sacrifice some of the profits to pay for eBay’s services.  You will also have to pay for shipping unless you make the sale local.

Consignment shops will sell your furniture for you but they will take a percentage of your profits.  A yard sale is a good idea if you have multiple items but you have to be prepared for hagglers and bargain hunters.  If you have a bottom price, don’t budge.
